Jura E8 Overview
Let’s start by talking about the Jura E8. This super automatic espresso machine is known for making several barista-quality drinks.
What’s really great about the Jura E8 is that it comes with a fine foam milk frother. That makes it possible for you to whip up cappuccinos and lattes for your friends and family!
In addition to that patented milk foam technology, the Jura E8 features a ceramic grinder. The grinder is designed to help you pull the most possible flavor out of your beverages and make super-aromatic brews.
The Jura E8 also offers 16 different pre-programmed drinks, all of which are super customizable.
You can adjust the milk temperature, amount of foam, coffee strength, and tons of other aspects of your drink.
Jura E8 is a pretty compact device, too. It’s small enough for home use but big enough that you can count on it if you’ve got a couple of coffee drinkers in your household.
Jura S8 Overview
The Jura S8, on the other hand, is a machine that’s luxurious and comes with quite a few bells and whistles.
For one thing, the S8 features a touchscreen system that makes it easier than ever for you to program your coffee.
You can customize your drinks as much as you like and can even copy, paste, and store your favorite drink preferences!
It also has a cool feature called Active Bean Monitoring.
This just means that this Jura coffee machine actually tells you when it’s time to refill the coffee bean hopper!
That’s super convenient if you drink a lot of coffee because your bean hopper will never be empty.
Jura E8 vs S8: Features Compared
With the basic intros out of the way, let’s get down to business.
The Jura E8 and the S8 both have some great features, and we will get through them all.
Here’s what you need to know about the features of each Jura coffee machine and what sets them apart.
Grinder
Both the Jura E8 and the Jura S8 have great grinders.
That’s because they have the same grinder!
These machines feature the Aroma G3 grinder, a conical burr grinder that helps get a super smooth grind of your specialty coffee.
The conical shape of the burrs helps create a much more even grind than flat burrs.
Plus, the stainless steel material helps ensure that you get super fine coffee, with no stray chunks.
Another feature of the grinder is that it helps prevent the coffee beans from oxidizing. That ensures that you get super aromatic and flavorful cups of coffee.
The grinder is also super quiet and adjustable, with 10 different grind sizes.
Oh, and they also feature a grinder bypass option. That way, if you’d rather use pre-ground coffee in your machine, you can.
Brewing
Both the S8 and the E8 offer excellent brewing systems.
The super automatic coffee machine Jura E8 produces 16 different specialties from the classic espresso to a modern cortado.
On the other hand, the S8 allows you to make 15 types of coffee, including a cappuccino or a latte macchiato.
The S8 features Jura’s proprietary Pulse Extraction Process (P.E.P.) which pulses hot water through the coffee beans in short bursts.
The result is a rich, creamy coffee with an extra-velvety crema.
On the other hand, the Jura E8 comes with 3D brewing technology. This technology lets the water evenly flow through the coffee grounds.
It does so at three different tiered levels, creating even silkier coffee than you might find in other machines.
The technology basically enhances Jura’s PEP technology and gives you an even more flavorful brew.
Interface
In terms of the Jura E8 vs S8 battle, the interface is a pretty major difference.
The Jura E8, despite being a super-capable machine, definitely is lacking in terms of the interface.
The machine features a TFT touchpad rather than a touchscreen system.
Although that’s not necessarily a big deal, it does make the interface a bit less intuitive. And, it can be a bit hard to read for those with eyesight issues.
On the other hand, the S8 features a super snazzy touchscreen. It’s all color and has adjustable brightness so that you can set it to your preferences.
Both machines have indicator lights to let you know when to change your water and clean your system.
However, the S8 system is slightly more advanced, also alerting you to when to refill the bean hopper.
Milk System
The milk system on the Jura E8 and the S8 is pretty similar. Both machines feature a fully automatic milk system.
In other words, you can get creamy steamed milk for any beverage you like regardless of which espresso machine you’re using!
Both machines have a fine foam milk frother so that you can brew drinks such as flat whites.
Or, if you prefer, you can stick to your more standard hot milk beverages like a latte. Either way, you’ll get a great drink.
Better yet, the milk frothers both work with non-dairy milk.
While I’m not vegan myself, I have friends who are, so the ability to use almond and other non-dairy beverages is definitely important.
The milk spout is interchangeable on both machines.
You’re able to switch it out for cleaning or to make aerated vs fine milk foam.
You can use the fine milk foam attachment to get super smooth, flat white foam. Or, switch to the steaming system for latte-style milk.
Capacity
In terms of capacity, both the Jura E8 and the Jura S8 machines do pretty well.
In fact, they have the same water tank capacity of 1.9 liters! That’s a pretty decent size water tank, which should give you enough water to brew up coffee for a week without refilling.
The bean hopper capacity is also the same. Both machines let you fill the hopper to about 280 grams.
The one difference here is that the Jura S8 features active bean monitoring. That means that the system will let you know when it’s time to refill the hopper.
In contrast, the Jura E8 lacks this feature.
Still, it’s not the end of the world. Although it’s a nifty aspect of the S8, it’s a nice-to-have feature rather than a must-have feature.
Cleaning & Maintenance
If you are a coffee drinker who hates cleaning as much as I do you’ll love the Jura E8 coffee machine.
The E8 has one-touch cleaning and rinsing programs so that you can flush debris out of the system in no time.
On top of that, the milk spout has its own cleaning function. Just push a button and voilá! Your milk frother is ready to go again.
However, the cleaning process is not completely automatic.
When you run the cleaning program on your Jura e8 machine, you will be notified when you need to empty the drip tray and coffee grounds container.
You just need to take them out, empty them, and put them back into the machine. After that final step, the cleaning will be complete.
In contrast, the S8 notably lacks this milk-frother cleaning function. You’ll have to manually remove the spout and clean it yourself.
Still, you can actually put the pieces in the dishwasher.
Even though you’ll have to remove the pour spout, it’s not too bad since you don’t have to sit there scrubbing it by hand.
Special Features
Both the Jura E8 and the S8 have a couple of special features.
One of the special features that they share is memorizing your favorite drinks. That makes it easier for you to go back and re-create that special latte you made!
On top of that, both systems also feature the Intelligent Pre-infusion System (IPBAS) and a CLARIS Smart water filtering system.
The IPBAS helps maximize the flavor of your coffee while the intelligent water system ensures there are no impurities in the water. That way, you get great-tasting coffee with no dirt distracting from the flavor.
However, each espresso machine does have its own special features, too.
For instance, the Jura E8 allows you to connect to your smartphone or tablet through Smart Connect. However, you’ll have to purchase the Smart Connect accessory separately to do so.
On the other hand, the S8 lets you connect to your phone or tablet via Bluetooth. You don’t have to purchase the Smart Connect accessory at all, saving you a few bucks.
The Jura E8 does come with one bonus feature that the S8 doesn’t have, however. It lets you pour extra-long espresso shots with milk beverages.
If you’re a lover of dark, strong coffee, this is a feature you might want to take advantage of.
Final Verdict
Now that you’ve had a chance to check out this E8 vs S8 showdown, I’m pretty sure you’ll agree that without a doubt, the E8 is the better of the two machines.
The E8 lets you whip up more types of drinks than the S8 and comes with a fully-automatic cleaning system.
Still, the S8 isn’t far behind the E8 and still makes for a pretty sweet espresso machine for every coffee lover.
In the end, regardless of which you pick, I’m confident you’ll fall in love with your Jura machine. Thanks to the excellent quality coffee Jura machines whip up, it’s really hard to go wrong with any of them.
