Design & Interface
Part of the overall appeal of Jura machines is their impeccable style. Each Jura model has a sleek and modern look.
Not only are most machines crafted with stainless steel (I mean, can you get any classier?), but they’re also made in neutral colors.
You really don’t have to worry about big, ugly, hulking clunkers clashing with your kitchen decor.
In terms of the Jura S8, this translates to a stainless steel and black exterior. It’s sleek and relatively compact, measuring just 11 x 13 x 17 inches.
Don’t let that fool you into thinking it’s lightweight, however.
This espresso machine, though sleek and compact, weighs a hefty 22 lbs!

Grinding and brewing are two of the most important parts of a good coffee machine.

As I mentioned earlier, the Jura S8 is a super-automatic coffee machine. That basically means it does all the grinding, brewing, and frothing for you!
In terms of the grind system, this bad boy is outfitted with Jura’s A3 Aroma grinder. The grinder preserves the flavor and scent of the beans, making for a crazy good cup of coffee.
Now, what I especially love about the Jura S8 is the grinder’s adjustability.
There are 10 different grind settings, so you can grind for pretty much any brew. Even if you just want a regular old drip coffee, that’s possible with this grinder!
The grinder is also super quiet, so you don’t have to worry about disturbing the neighbors in the morning.
Another key feature of the grinder is that it has a pretty big capacity. Able to hold 280 grams, that’s a fair chunk more than some of the other Juras on the market.
Moving onto the brew system, you won’t be disappointed there either.
The brew system uses 15 bar pressure and Jura’s proprietary PEP technology. This process pulses hot water through the coffee beans, getting the most flavor and aroma out of your cup.
Combine that with their aroma grinder, and you’ve got a seriously good cup of coffee.
Cleaning & Maintenance
If you keep up with me and coffee machines, you’ll know I have a love-hate relationship with them.
I love sipping on barista-quality coffee in the comfort of my living room. I hate cleaning out the espresso machine.
The good news is that the Jura S8 is pretty easy to keep clean.
The touchscreen interface has a maintenance screen that you can navigate to.
Even if you’re not constantly checking on the cleanliness, you can still keep your machine in check easily. It’ll light up and alert you when the machine needs maintenance.
Then, once the machine alerts you that it’s time for cleaning, you basically just set the thing going!
There are special Jura machine cleaning pucks that you can pop into the machine. After that, start the cycle, and the machine rinses, descales, and flushes out debris.
Now, while most Jura machines have this capability, that’s not to say that they’re all like the S8. The S8 stands out in particular because it actually has the TUV hygiene certificate. That’s a world-class, hospitality-industry certificate of cleanliness that lets you know the Jura S8 is up to snuff.
Types of Drinks
The types of drinks are really where the Jura S8 shines.
Whereas the Jura A1 only offers espresso, the Jura S8 comes with the capability of making numerous types of beverages.
First, there’s the classic ristretto and espresso drinks. These are for a coffee lover who wants nothing more than to hone in on the flavor of the specialty coffee bean.
Thanks to that PEP technology Jura is famous for, you get some excellent espresso from this machine.
In addition to these two super-simple beverages, you can also whip up a number of milk-based drinks.

Milk Frother
The Jura S8 is special in that it contains a fine milk foam frother.
The fine milk foam frother is a feature that not all Jura machines have, and it’s definitely one I recommend investing in.
Why? Because the fine milk foam frother is what lets you craft cappuccinos and flat whites.
While you can make a mean latte on other Jura machines with milk frothers, you won’t be able to get that rich microfoam you need for a cappuccino.
With the S8, however, you can make quite literally any espresso-based brew you set your heart on.
The milk frother also allows you to simply create steam. That can be great for making brewed teas or heating up the drink.
The one downside to the milk frother is that it can be a bit difficult to clean.
Although the Jura coffee machine has a self-cleaning system, that doesn’t include self-cleaning for the milk frother.
Luckily, Jura sells a thin, stiff-bristled brush that you can use to clean out steamed milk residue from the steaming system.
Special Features
Now, let’s talk about special features.
The reason this is important to note is that the Jura S8 lets you pair your phone with the machine via a smartphone app.
This isn’t something that all Juras allow you to do, so it’s definitely a bonus with the Jura S8.
With the S8’s app, you can program coffee drinks right from your living room without even getting up to touch the machine.
You can also set the machine to make multiple drinks in a row. Just make sure to remember to switch out the cup!
Another special feature of the Jura S8 is its adjustable spout. This lets you change the height of the spout where the espresso pours from.

In terms of ease of use, the Jura S8 doesn’t leave much to be desired. It’s got a minimalist design interface that’s super user-friendly and intuitive.
In other words, it’s easy for you to use.
There are no confusing bobs and bits to navigate on the machine. Instead, simply hit the ‘on’ switch and program everything right there on the touchscreen.
The touch screen instantly pops up with the pre-programmed drinks. If you click on the “drinks” you can start editing and tweaking the settings.
Or, you can simply choose to use the one-touch feature to brew a quick cup of coffee.
What’s great about the Jura S8 is that you can get super customized if you want to. However, if that’s too confusing for you, you don’t have to take advantage of it.
Anyone wanting to start customizing may find the interface slightly overwhelming at first.
