GECME418E-U 20 Bar Compact Professional Espresso Coffee Machine

This Gevi model checks all the boxes. It’s easy to use, rather affordable and has all the features you need to make a good shot of espresso.

This model has a cool, retro design. That’s mainly due to its brushed silver color and a large pressure gauge situated at the front.

But the gauge is definitely more than a stylish accessory. When pulling the shot, you can adjust the pressure very precisely, hitting the extraction spot just right. This model uses a 20-bar pump, which ensures you always get nice crema on top.

You can also customize your preferred amount of espresso by choosing between a single and a double shot button.

Thanks to the Thermoblock fast heating system, your machine is ready to make an espresso drink almost instantly. While you can’t brew and steam simultaneously, there’s practically no wait time in between.

This model comes with a commercial-grade steam wand, so with a bit of practice, you can master different types of foam at home. The only thing that’s slightly annoying is how loud the steam wand gets. Keep that in mind when making coffee while the household is asleep.

Pros

  • Thanks to the pressure gauge, you can pull the shot with the right pressure for proper extraction
  • The steam wand doubles as a hot water dispenser, so you can make Americano
  • Features a thermoblock heating system, meaning it heats up instantly
  • Comes with a removable froth nozzle, which makes wand cleaning easy

Cons

  • The steam wand is loud, which can be annoying

GECME020DE-U 20 Bar Semi Automatic 3 In 1 Espresso Machine

If you’re willing to invest more in an espresso maker, then you can’t go wrong with this model. It costs like a mid-range machine yet has many features you only see in high-end models.

Starting with the grinder, this machine uses conical burrs to offer as many as 30 grind settings. That’s way more than you might ever need, even if you’re constantly trying out new roasts and beans.

What’s also great about this model is that it grinds your beans directly into the portafilter. This means no mess and no need for tamping – the machine does it for you.

But if you prefer tamping your coffee grounds, you definitely can. This model comes with a 58mm stainless steel tamper, which I’m really impressed with. It’s heavy and ergonomic, just how it needs to be.

To make good espresso, you need water to be the right temperature. The PID intelligent temperature control ensures that’s always the case. And that’s regardless of the outside factors that can affect that temperature.

The only real complaint? The size. This model is quite bulky, so it might not fit in every kitchen.

Pros

  • With 30 grind settings, you can really finetune your coffee
  • Grinds directly into the portafilter, so there’s no need for tamping or cleanup
  • Features a customizable pre-infusion profile, meaning you can choose between different extraction levels
  • PID temperature control ensures external factors don’t affect water temperature

Cons

  • Bulky, so it’s not ideal for small spaces

GECME400BA-U Espresso Machine 20 Bar Fast Heating Coffee Maker

You don’t often see LED displays on espresso machines at this price range. It might not seem like much, but the display definitely takes out a bit of guesswork when it comes to making your coffee.

The interface is rather simple. On either side of the display, there’s a cup size button. And on the right side of the machine, it features a steam knob. And that’s about it – no need to flip through the manual before brewing.

This model uses a powerful Thermoblock fast heating system, which heats up in less than a minute. What’s also great is that it features two thermostat controls – one for brewing and the other for steaming. That way, both are prepared within their required temperature range.

For making foam, this machine features a manual, stainless steel steam wand that rotates 360°. It does a great job of making silky foam for latte art, as well as a frothy foam for cappuccino.

But it’s a bit short, which I find slightly annoying. To keep the tip below the milk surface, you do need to tilt the pitcher quite a bit.

Pros

  • Features an LED display, which makes the machine simple and intuitive to use
  • Auto shuts down after 15 minutes, thus saving you energy
  • Features two separate thermostat controls, so your coffee will taste good and not burnt
  • The 20-bar pressure pump ensures you get a nice layer of crema on top

Cons

  • The steaming wand is short, so you have to hold a pitcher rather high

GECME403-U Espresso Machine 15 Bar Coffee Machine

Gevi is known for making affordable espresso machines. And among them, this model stands out as the one with the lowest price tag.

But that definitely doesn’t mean this machine is falling behind by any means.

First, it has a dual temperature control system. This allows you to both brew and steam at their designated temperatures, so you won’t burn your coffee. Now, this is a feature you almost never see at this price point, which is a big plus.

To make sure the machine is heated enough for brewing or steaming, there’s a large temperature gauge at the front.

Now, it takes a bit for the machine to reach the required temperature compared to other Gevi models. But you can make two shots at once, which saves you some time as well.

The frothing wand on this machine is fully rotating and made of stainless steel. It’s a bit short, so you need to hold the pitcher up high, which can be annoying. But performance-wise, it makes excellent, velvety foam.

Pros

  • The cup holder is removable, so you can pour coffee directly into a tall mug
  • Features a 50-ounce water tank, so you can make tons of espresso without refilling
  • An ample warming tray allows you to keep several cups warm at once
  • The water tank is transparent, so you know exactly when it needs to be refilled

Cons

  • Slightly slower heating time compared to other Gevi models
  • The wand is somewhat short, so you need to hold the pitcher up higher

GECME003D-U Espresso Machine 15 Bar

If your morning starts by drinking a delicious espresso with your partner, then this model is right up your alley. This machine is designed to make two shots at once, and it does that in just 25 seconds of brewing time!

With that being said, it takes a bit for the machine to heat up initially. But as long as you turn it on as soon as you wake up and before your morning routine, you’ll have it ready for brewing when needed.

Like other Gevi machines, this model also features a manual steam wand. But this one, in particular, has a decent length and high mobility, so using it is a piece of cake. The frothing nozzle is also removable, which makes cleaning easy.

This machine has a rather simple yet timeless design. The brushed stainless steel is not only stylish but very durable. If taken proper care of it, this machine can last you a really long time.

The cup holder is situated high enough to prevent coffee from splashing when being poured. But you can also pour it directly into a tall mug simply by removing the holder when brewing.

Pros

  • The control panel is simple and intuitive, meaning you don’t need a manual to use it
  • Features a large water tank, so you can make espresso for days before it needs refilling
  • The removable froth nozzle makes cleaning milk residue easy
  • Made of stainless steel, this machine is built to last

Cons

  • Takes a bit longer to heat up initially, so you need to wait before brewing

GECME022-U Espresso Machine 20 Bar Fast Heating Coffee Maker

Don’t get fooled by the compact size of this espresso machine. It might be small, but it’s actually a beast.

It has a 1350W Thermoblock heating system, so you can start brewing within just 45 seconds of being turned on. And thanks to the dual thermostat, you can brew and steam with practically no wait time.

With 20 bars of pressure in the pump, this machine optimally extracts coffee every single time. Furthermore, you also get a nice layer of crema on top, which makes your espresso even more delicious.

This machine is very easy to use. You can choose between a single or a double shot of espresso with a single press of a button. But you can also manually control how much espresso and hot water dispenses. This allows you to finetune both volume and consistency.

The sleek, white design stands out from the typical Gevi steel look. My only real complaint about the design is that the water tank is loaded at the back. That means you need to move the machine around every time it needs a refill.

Pros

  • Heats up practically instantly, so you can start brewing right away
  • The drip tray features a buoy, which lets you know when it needs to be drained
  • You can adjust the amount of coffee and water, so you can make espresso as concentrated as you want
  • Automatically shuts down after 15 minutes, so it saves you energy

Cons

  • Features a back-loading water tank, meaning you need to move the machine around when refilling

20 Bar Compact Professional Espresso Coffee Machine

There are many great things to say about this machine. But I’m pretty sure that the sleek and retro design is what grabs everyone’s attention at first.

The tan color and silver details make this espresso maker quite an eye candy. The design is still rather minimalistic and clean, with buttons located at the top.

On the front, there’s a large pressure gauge that’s stylish but also functional. Given it’s a semi-automatic espresso machine, the gauge helps you achieve the required pressure for optimal extraction.

Unlike most Gevi machines, this model features a long, commercial-grade steam wand. Now, using it does require a slight learning curve. But once you master it, you can make any type of milk froth you want with it.

You don’t often see the pre-infusion feature in models at this price range, so props to Gevi. This feature really makes a world of difference when it comes to the flavor and aroma of your espresso.

This model comes with a 51mm portafilter, which is smaller than the standard. That means slightly less flexibility, as you can use less amount of coffee grounds. But that’s not too big of a deal unless you prefer very strong espresso.

Pros

  • Pre-infuses coffee grounds, which ensures proper extraction
  • Comes with a commercial-grade steam wand, meaning you can make barista-style milk foam at home
  • Features a pressure gauge, so you can measure how much pressure you’re applying when pulling
  • Very compact, meaning it’s suitable for small spaces

Cons

  • Smaller portafilter compared to industry standard, so you have less flexibility

The Buying Guide to Gevi Espresso Machines

Now, I know that most Gevi machines appear to be quite similar at first glance.

And you’re not wrong. Gevi is set on giving you the best bang for your buck, so many models come with the same high-quality features.

But of course, there are some crucial differences between them. In this section, we’ll discuss everything you need to keep an eye on when choosing the best model for you.

What size to choose?

Most Gevi models are designed with small spaces in mind. After all, an espresso maker is not the only thing that needs to be sitting on your counter. You also need the space to place your grinder, coffee scale, coffee containers, etc.

Still, not all Gevi espresso machines have the same footprint.

What you’ll probably notice is that most 20-bar models are designed to be tall but very slim, thus taking very little space on the counter. However, the height is definitely something to consider, especially if your kitchen cabinets are set rather low.

And given that most models have a warming tray on top, you need some extra room between the machine and the cabinet to place your cups.

The 15-bar models, on the other hand, are somewhat square in design. By that, I mean they’re wider but shorter than 20-bar models. They fit perfectly even if your cabinets are situated rather low.

Speaking of size, the water tank capacity is also something worth considering.

The smallest models have a 35-ounce water tank, while the largest one has a whopping 67-ounce capacity.

Which one is better for you depends on the amount of espresso you make each day. Given that a single shot is one ounce, it’s clear how many shots you can make before it needs refilling.

IN A NUTSHELL
Both footprint and capacity are something worth considering. Depending on your counter space and the amount of coffee you’re making each day, certain models might be more or less suitable for you.

The importance of performance

Of course, we all want an espresso machine that works well. And all Gevi models do.

But some are brewing espresso better than others, depending on the features they include.

One such feature is a thermoblock heating system. This type of heater works fast, so it allows you to brew and steam with very little wait time in between. That way, your espresso won’t get cool before the machine heats up enough to make a decent milk foam.

Another feature that affects the performance is the pre-infusion system. This basically means the machine prewets coffee grounds before pushing water through them. That way, it ensures every coffee particle gets evenly extracted.

How good is the milk frother?

frothing milk
Many affordable Gevi models come with a milk frother

Every Gevi machine comes with a milk frother, although not all of them have the same type.

Arguably the best is the standard, long steam wand. While it does require a bit of practice to get the hang of it, it allows you to make different types of foam. From frothy cappuccino to a velvety latte, you can achieve both.

But keep in mind that this type of wand is included in models that are on the more expensive side.

Many affordable Gevi models come with a shorter and wider steam wand. This type of wand is designed to make frothing a bit easier. But the short length means you need to hold the pitcher up higher to keep the wand under the milk surface.

Special features

Sometimes, the choice comes down to special features only certain models have.

My personal favorite is the pressure gauge. Given these are semi-automatic machines, you’re pulling the shot. And the gauge allows you to measure exactly how much pressure you’re applying.

A warming tray is another cool feature to have. You need your cup to be warm, or else it will affect the taste of your espresso shot. Without a warming tray, you need to warm the cup manually by rinsing it with hot water.

Finally, I must mention the automatic shutdown. As someone who always forgets to turn the appliance off, this is a rather important feature to have. Not only does it save you energy, but it also prevents accidents from short circuits.

To Sum Things Up

Gevi makes great machines, so picking the best espresso machine is not an easy task.

But the GECME418E-U espresso machine definitely has a slight edge over other models.

It’s easy to use, heats up fast, and allows quite a bit of customization for a machine at this price range.

And thanks to the commercial-grade steam wand, you can make velvety foam at home with ease.

Finally, its retro look is definitely going to stand out in your kitchen.
