Lately, everybody is talking about proffee.

A mixture of coffee and protein shake sounds amazing, but how to make proffee?

Although it sounds complicated, it really isn’t. I made it at home with just a few ingredients, and it was delicious!

Stay with me, and I will show you how to make the easiest protein coffee.

Let’s go!

What Is Proffee?

Have you heard about proffee?

I didn’t know what it was the first time someone mentioned it to me, but I googled it, and I was mindblown.

Proffee is a beverage that combines coffee and protein shakes!

It is all over the internet, and no wonder everybody has gone crazy about it.

A protein drink can be a great addition to your diet. They are getting more and more popular, especially among athletic people.

But, just imagine how convenient it is to have your post-workout shake with an additional coffee aroma and caffeine boost.

And, it can be super tasty as well.

Let’s talk about the two main ingredients of proffee.

Coffee

Coffee is the staple of this drink.

Proffee is usually made with cold coffee. But you can definitely use hot brewed coffee as well. In that case, just add more ice, cold milk, or a cold protein shake.

Basically, you can use almost any type of coffee. My advice is to go with the one you love the most.

You can make an extraordinary proffee with any of these:

  • Espresso shots
  • French press coffee
  • Moka pot
  • Pour-over
  • Drip coffee
  • Cold brew
  • Instant coffee

I prefer cold brew for my proffee because of its strong body and intense flavor (+ it’s cold). It’s my go-to base for any type of iced coffee.

EXTRA TIP
Coffee for proffee should be a bit stronger than your regular coffee. It’s because protein shakes are often flavored and can overpower the taste of coffee.

Protein

Nowadays, there is a huge variety of proteins to choose from.

First, there are different types of proteins from different sources, like whey, egg, hemp, or mixed-plant proteins.

If you’re overwhelmed with all the options out there, do thorough research and choose the one that suits your needs.

Proteins come in two forms: powdered protein and a ready-to-drink protein shake.

Surely, a pre-mixed protein shake is way easier to use for proffee. Just mix it with coffee, and voila!

If you’re already using protein, you probably know that it is best to mix powdered protein with cold water. If you mix it with hot water, it tends to lump.

The same goes for coffee. If you want to avoid powder lumps in your proffee, the smartest thing to do is to mix protein powder with water or any kind of milk separately. And then you can pour it into your coffee.

This adds one additional step to the preparation of proffee.

Besides that, it doesn’t matter which kind of protein you use.

NOTE
Protein can add flavor to your proffee. You can find all kinds of flavors. Chocolate, banana, caramel, or vanilla taste will go excellent with coffee.

How To Make Proffee: Super Easy And Quick Recipe

Proffee is super easy to make.

You can find a bunch of different recipes online, but to be fair, there are no rules for making a perfect proffee. Your hands are completely untied.

Basically, you just need to mix your coffee with a protein shake. You can also add any kind of milk, flavored syrup, or sweetener to your preference.

Now, let me show you my favorite proffee recipe. I use cold brew and bottled whey protein shake with a vanilla taste. It takes just a few seconds, and it is super tasty!

Equipment

  • coffee maker for cold brew (it can be Aeropress, French press, or even a mason jar)
  • large cup or glass

Ingredients

  • Vanilla flavored whey protein shake (or any other protein that you like)
  • extra coarse coffee ground (for cold brew)
  • ice cubes
  • cinnamon (optional)

Instructions

Ready to make this delicious proffer?

Follow this simple protein coffee recipe, and you will have your cold vanilla proffee in no time!

  1. Prepare your coffee.

The first step is making a cold brew coffee. There are several ways to do it, and you can choose the method which suits you the most.

If you have an Aeropress, you can make a cold brew within minutes.

Otherwise, preparing cold brew coffee takes some time. Your coffee ground should be steeped in cold water for 12 to 24 hours.

Yes, this requires planning ahead, but, trust me, it’s worth it. Cold brew has uncomparable aroma and flavor.

  1. Pour the coffee over ice

Fill your glass with ice cubes. I’m a big-time fan of iced coffee, so I use a handful of ice cubes. Then, pour the coffee over the ice.

  1. Add the protein shake

The next step is adding protein over coffee and ice. The ratio should be 1:1 of coffee to protein shake.

This is my favorite part because the mixing of the shake, coffee, and ice cubes is super aesthetic.

And in the end, add a pinch of cinnamon if you like. Give it a stir, and enjoy!

Want to know more about proffee? Stay with me and find the answers to a few frequently asked questions right away.

Can you drink proffee hot?

Of course, you can. Powdered protein is made to be mixed with cold water. In hot water (or hot coffee), it can get lumpy.

But, the solution is to dissolve protein powder separately in cold water, and then you can mix it with hot coffee.

Also, you can put a protein shake in the microwave. That way, it won’t cool down your coffee drink.

What does proffee taste like?

The taste of your proffee can vary a lot. It depends on the type of coffee you use, and the flavors of the protein shake.

But, since most of the protein shakes have added sugar, proffee will definitely be on the sweet side of the scale.

How many calories are in proffee?

Unfortunately, there is no way to tell the exact number. The total number of calories depends on the protein you use.

Check the numbers on the back of the protein pack. Also, count in sugar or any other add-ins.

Final Thoughts

And that’s all.

Proffee is a tasty beverage made with coffee and protein shakes.

Drinking proffee coffee is great if you need food for your muscles after the workout, but you also need your caffeine boost.

And, you can also make it very easily in just a few minutes. The easiest option is to mix cold brew and a bottled protein shake.
