Jura ENA8 Overview

jura ENA 8 overview

The Jura ENA 8 is the go-to for those who want to get proven Swiss coffee-making technologies in a designer coffee machine.

This is a fully automatic espresso machine that prepares both espresso and ristretto with the click of a button.

Plus, it makes all your favorite drinks with a delicate milk foam: cappuccinos, lattes, flat whites, or even just a jug of hot milk.

The ENA8, like most other Jura machines out there, allows for quite a bit of customization. You can adjust the temperature and strength of your coffee, among other things.

In terms of what makes the Jura machine a worthy investment, you’ve got Jura’s state-of-the-art Aroma G3 coffee grinder.

This grinder helps create an even grind without making a ton of noise.

On top of that, it has a special cap that helps prevent oxygen from getting into the grinder and spoiling the beans.

As a result, you get a super flavorful and aromatic cup of coffee!

Anyone interested in a high-quality coffee machine that gets the job done will love the ENA8. It’s got all the extra features you look for when you choose a Jura coffee maker.

Pros

  • ENA 8 features a fast burr grinder with 6 settings, so you can adjust the grind size to your favorite type of coffee
  • Comes with SmartConnect technology, so you can control it from your smartphone or tablet
  • Has integrated indicator lights, so you always know when it’s time to clean the coffee machine or change the drip tray
  • Features an adjustable dispenser, so you can use any size cup with the machine
  • Has a Zero-Energy Switch system, so it doesn’t use electricity when it’s in standby mode.

Cons

  • It doesn’t have a programmable milk function, so it can be hard to adjust the milk foam and temperature
  • You can only serve one espresso at a time, so it doesn’t have a huge capacity

Jura E8 Overview

jura e 8 overview

The Jura E8 is part of Jura’s E-series coffee machines. These have always been renowned for their many drink options and ease of use.

The E8 has 17 different coffee beverages that you can make, ranging from a simple espresso to a modern cortado.

It has some of Jura’s finest brewing technology, such as the IPBAS system. This system pulls the most flavor out of the coffee bean before the brewing process, giving you a richer cup of coffee.

You’ll also love the fact that this automatic coffee machine features clean lines and a modern design.

It looks great in just about any kitchen, despite the fact that it’s a pretty big machine.

The one area where the machine might be slightly lacking is in its interface controls. The Jura E8 features a rotary dial, which can be a bit finicky to use.

Still, you can whip up some pretty great cups of coffee with this device.

Pros

  • E8 has an Intelligent Water System, so it lets you know when it’s time to refill the water tank
  • Has fast heating, so you don’t have to wait around for your espresso to brew or milk to steam
  • Features a bypass doser, so you can use pre-ground coffee in this automatic coffee machine if you prefer
  • Offers 17 drink options, so you can make pretty much any beverage you set your heart on

Cons

  • There’s no pre-brew aroma system, so you won’t get quite as aromatic of a cup of coffee as with some other Jura machines
  • The water tank is a bit difficult to fill, so it can be a pain whenever the water level runs low

Jura ENA 8 vs E8: The Features & Differences

Now that you’ve got a quick look at both the ENA 8 and the E8, let’s talk about what makes them different.

After all, while they’ve got a few similarities, they’re definitely not the same espresso machine!

Here’s what you need to know about the key features of each of these devices.

Grinding

jura e8 grinder

The Jura ENA 8 uses an Aroma G3 Grinder. This is a proprietary piece of Jura tech that’s designed to lock in the flavor of your coffee beans.

Now, while the E8 also features an Aroma G3 Grinder, there’s a notable difference between that of the ENA 8.

The ENA 8, thanks to its newer design, comes with a sharper grinder with wider blades. That makes for a smoother, finer grind and less coffee residue.

What’s more, the ENA 8’s grinder is a bit faster than the E8’s.

This is both a blessing and a curse.

It means that the ENA 8 grinds your beans more quickly, saving you time. But, it also means that the heat from the fast-moving blades can warm up the coffee grinds and take away some of the flavors.

The E8 also has a bypass doser attached to it.

That means that you can skip using the grinder altogether and use pre-ground specialty coffee if you’d prefer.

It’s not the most necessary feature in the world, but it’s certainly nice to have.

Brewing

The Jura E8 is famous for brewing excellent cups of coffee, and for doing it fast. This espresso machine features two pouring spouts, which allow you to make two cups of coffee at once.

It also has a nearly two-liter water tank, meaning you can brew quite a few cups of coffee before you refill it.

The ENA 8, on the other hand, only allows you to make one cup of coffee at a time. Its water tank is half the size of the E8’s, too.

Aside from these differences, the E8 and the ENA8 are pretty similar.

Both machines feature Jura’s Intelligent Pre-Brew Aroma System (IPBAS).

The IPBAS makes sure the coffee to water ratio is just right, and helps pull the most possible aroma out of the beans as they brew.

They both also feature Jura’s Pulse Extraction Process (PEP) technology.

This system forces small bursts of hot water through the coffee beans. In doing so, it creates a super-smooth cup of coffee with a rich crema.

Taste

In terms of taste, it’s going to be a hard-fought battle to see who the winner is.

The Jura ENA 8 has a higher-quality grinding system, which helps preserve the flavor of your beans.

At the same time, the Jura E8 gives you the ability to use pre-ground coffee, which means you could go for your favorite ground coffee if you want to.

In terms of the brewing process, both machines feature the company’s PEP extraction process and aroma grinders for maximum flavor.

As a result, you’ll get a rich crema and full-bodied flavor in each cup of coffee.

The Jura E8 and the ENA8 both feature Jura’s fine-foam technology. That means that you really won’t have too much of a difference in the flavor of milk-based beverages, either.

In essence, both machines make great-tasting coffee. The only real difference lies in whether you want to use flavored beans or not, in which case you’d go for the E8.

Cleaning

Let’s talk about cleaning for a second.

Sure, this isn’t one of the most exciting parts of having a coffee maker.

But, unless you want to be replacing your espresso machine every year, it’s definitely a necessary part of having one.

The ENA 8 and the E8 actually have pretty much identical cleaning systems.

Both the ENA 8 and the E8 include a CLARIS Smart mini water filter, which helps prevent minerals and debris from getting into your water and increases the coffee quality.

This keeps your Jura coffee machine free of gunk that could clog the water heating and dispensing mechanisms, too!

On top of that, the ENA 8 and E8 have integrated cleaning systems.

All you have to do is pop in a Jura cleaning puck and run the cycle. From there, the machine will rinse, descale, and clean itself without you having to lift a finger.

Both machines also have an integrated cleaning system for the milk frother.

That prevents old milk froth residue from jamming up the steaming spout.

Drinks

jura e8 drinks

In terms of the drinks, the E8 definitely comes out on top.

Whereas the ENA 8 can only make up to 10 different drinks, the Jura E8 allows you to brew a whopping 17 types of beverages!

The ENA 8 offers users a choice between your basic coffee, ristretto, and espresso options. It also throws a flat white, latte macchiato, and macchiato into the mix.

On the other hand, the E8 allows you to make:

  • Espresso
  • Ristretto
  • Cappuccino
  • Cortado
  • Latte macchiato
  • Flat white
  • Coffee
  • Lungo shots
  • Macchiato

It also allows you to make a coffee drink with a double shot!

If you are a strong coffee lover, the Jura E8 is definitely the way to go. You’ll be able to get all your favorite drinks and have an extra kick of coffee strength from that second espresso shot.

The Verdict

With this breakdown of the Jura ENA 8 vs E8, it’s pretty clear who the winner is: the Jura E 8

Not only does the E8 offer more drinks, but it comes with some advanced features that really step up your coffee game. You’ll get super smooth espresso with a delicious finish.

Better yet, the E8 is a super-automatic machine that does all the work for you. There’s almost no involvement on your part whether you’re pulling shots or cleaning the machine.

Despite the fact that the E8 is the clear winner, both machines will get you a great cup of coffee. Or, you could always opt for one of Jura’s other devices. We won’t judge!
