Jura E6 Overview

jura e6 espresso machine

The E6 is Jura automatic coffee machine that allows you to make well-brewed espresso beverages in no time at all.

The machine features some great Jura tech, such as the Aroma G3 grinder for aromatic brews and PEP technology for silky-smooth cremas.

In terms of design, the Jura E6 is made of plastic and stainless steel. As a result, it’s a pretty durable device.

The E6 also has a pretty good capacity. The bean hopper is a whopping 280-grams, which means you won’t have to constantly refill it.

And, the water tank is 1.9-liters which also allows for quite a few drinks to be made.

Speaking of the water tank, you’ll enjoy the Intelligent Water System which filters hard minerals out of your drink. That helps keep your drink tasting fresh and pure!

Finally, the Jura E6 has integrated cleaning programs that you can run with the push of a button.

Even the drip tray is electronically controlled so that you know exactly when you need to empty it.

Pros

  • Jura E6 features a silent grinder, so you don’t have to worry about making a racket while you brew your coffee
  • Comes with integrated cleaning programs, so all you have to do is pop in a cleaning puck and run the cycle
  • Features one-touch coffee systems so that you can make your coffee quickly and without much involvement on your part
  • Uses fewer coffee beans per shot of espresso, so you don’t generate as much waste

Cons

  • There’s no bypass doser, so you can’t use pre-ground coffee in the machine
  • Has limited drink options, so you’re not able to brew up all your favorite coffee beverages

Jura E8 Overview

jura e8 espresso machine

The Jura E8 is one of Jura’s most popular machines. It offers a high level of programmability as well as a high level of quality.

One of the things that users love about the E8 is that it features Jura’s fine foam technology.

In other words, you can brew up flat whites as well as standard lattes and cappuccinos.

The Jura E8 espresso machine also features both an Aroma G3 grinder and a bypass doser. You’re able to use your favorite pre ground coffee or opt for the whole coffee bean if you want.

The E8 has an intuitive and easy-to-use design, thanks to its color touchscreen display. Just about everything in the touchscreen menu is operated with the touch of a button or two.

You’ll also love that the E8 is a pretty compact machine. Despite the fact that it can brew up quite a few cups of coffee (two at a time!), it won’t take up tons of counter space.

Lastly, the Jura E8 is compatible with Jura’s smartphone app, JOE.

That way, you can program your machine to make you a cup of coffee from your smartphone or tablet.

Talk about living the life of luxury!

Pros

  • Jura E8 has a fully automatic frother, so you can get any type of steamed milk you like with the push of a button
  • Offers as many as 16 different drink options, so you can enjoy pretty much any type of beverage you like
  • Has a bypass doser, so you can use both whole bean coffee or pre-ground coffee beans
  • Allows for manual milk texture control, so you can better customize your drinks
  • Has multiple levels of programmability, so you can design personalized beverages that you love

Cons

  • Features a small drip tray, so residue builds up and you have to empty it frequently
  • Has a loud grinder, so it can be a bit disruptive and annoying when you’re grinding your coffee

Jura E8 vs E6: Comparing the Features

With the overviews out of the way, let’s get down to business.

The Jura E8 and the Jura E6 are both great machines, but when you start looking at their key features, they’re actually pretty different.

Here’s what you need to know about a few of the major features of each machine.

Grinder Settings

jura e6 grinder

Both the Jura E8 and the E6 feature an Aroma G3 grinder. This type of grinder is an upgrade from older Jura models that feature the G2 grinder.

The G3 grinder features conical burrs, which lets the machinery break up the coffee beans into much finer pieces.

The result is a much more uniform grind, resulting in a much smoother cup of coffee.

On top of that, the G3 grinder features stainless steel burrs. These are super sharp, which also helps create that fine grind I was talking about.

The one difference in the grinder on the two machines is that, unlike the Jura E8, the Jura E6 doesn’t have a bypass doser.

Because of that, you won’t be able to use pre ground coffee in your Jura E6 espresso machine.

Brewing System

The brewing system on the Jura E6 and the E8 is pretty similar. Both use Jura’s PEP extraction process.

This process pulses hot water through the coffee grounds in short intervals. In doing so, it helps extract the most possible flavor from the beans.

The systems also feature the IPBAS, or Intelligent Pre-Brew Aroma System. This is a percolation method that helps pull more aroma out of the coffee before it actually brews your drink.

Combine that with the PEP technology and you’ve got one flavorful cup of coffee!

Despite those similarities, however, the machines do have a few key differences.

The E6 Jura coffee machine has a semi-automatic cappuccino foam system. You control the system using a knob that allows you to adjust how much steam comes out of the milk frother.

Since it’s so manual, it can be a bit hard to perfect. And, you won’t be able to make that silky-smooth flat white milk foam.

On the other hand, the E8 has all the bells and whistles you look for in an espresso machine.

It features Jura’s fine foam frother technology, which lets you make microfoam.

Better yet, it whips up that milk foam via a single button on the touch screen! There’s little to no involvement on your part to make your milk froth.

Finally, the last thing to know about these two brewing systems is that the E8 has two separate spouts: a milk spout and a coffee spout. The E6 only has one.

As a result, the E8 will steam your milk and pour your espresso at the same time.

The Jura E6 coffee machine, on the other hand, forces you to perform these steps one after the other.

Programmed Drinks

The drinks are one of the biggest deciding factors when you go to buy an espresso machine.

After all, you’re looking for a machine that lets you enjoy all your favorite forms of coffee!

The good news is that both machines let you make regular black coffee, espresso, and milk-based beverages such as latte macchiato.

The bad news is that one offers significantly fewer options than the other.

The Jura E6 lets you make 7 different drinks, including espresso, coffee, and cappuccinos.

The Jura E8, however, allows you to whip up more than twice as many drinks. You can choose between lattes and cappuccinos or opt for special shots like ristretto and lungo.

Even though the machines have different drink capacities, they do both allow for a bit of customization.

You can still adjust the coffee strength and temperature of your coffee drink using the Jura espresso machine.

Cleaning & Maintenance

Cleaning and maintenance are two necessary evils of owning a coffee machine.

Luckily, neither the Jura E6 nor the E8 will make you suffer too much.

Both are easy to clean and have the same automatic rinse, clean, and descaling programs. All you need to do manually is to empty the drip tray and coffee ground leftover.

The one difference between the two machines is that the E6 has an indicator light that lets you know when to run the cleaning program.

In contrast, the Jura E8 will automatically run the descaling system after the machine has been idle for a few minutes.

Basically, the E8 removes the step of you pushing a button to clean the machine.

It’s not a big feature you’ll lose out on if you go for the E6, but it’s still nice to have.

Special Features

jura espresso machines WiFi connectivity

In terms of special features, the Jura E8 beats the E6 by far.

That’s because it has a one-touch function for just about everything you want to do with the machine.

It also features a smart mode, which is an energy-saving system. You’ll not only enjoy great coffee but help save the planet at the same time!

The E8 also has WiFi connectivity, which lets you connect your machine to an Alexa or Google Home system.

The E6 doesn’t have any of these features.

What it does have (which the E8 also features) is compatibility with the JOE app. This basically lets you store your favorite drinks on a smartphone app.

Then, you can program those drinks on your Jura machine later.

The Verdict

With all the facts laid out in front of you, you’re probably thinking what I’m thinking: the Jura E8 comes out the clear winner in this battle.

The E8 has way more drink options as well as technology that makes it far easier to use.

Better yet, it features some snazzy Jura tech like the PEP brewer that allows you that rich, aromatic coffee you’re looking for.

Regardless of whether you choose the Jura E6 vs E8, you’re still bound to get a quality cup of coffee. After all, Jura knows how to make good brews.

So, will it be the Jura E6 or the Jura E8? You decide, and let us know how you fare in your decision!
